Mexico City, Mexico: Five of the best places to eat and drink
Five excellent places for food and drink in Mexico City. As chosen by Margarita Carrillo Arronte, author of Mexico: The Cookbook.
The tortas (toasted sandwiches) are amazing at Las Tortas de la Barraca Valenciana. Try the blanc y negra with black pudding and white sausage.
From morning to late afternoon you’ll find great, freshly cooked tacos at Los Tacos del Jarocho. Ask for the super campechano, packed with steak, fried pork, guacamole and cheese.
For modern Mexican fine food head to Quintonil. Typical dishes include braised tongue with black mole, chayote, green beans and mashed, roasted banana.
La Hacienda de los Morales serves traditional Mexican dishes such as huitlacoche soup and sweetcorn and courgette flower pie (main courses around £15) in a beautiful, authentic hacienda setting.
For a very contemporary take on Mexican cuisine, make your way to Pujol. Typical dishes include pork belly with beans and radishes, and yellow mole with aubergine, pumpkin and edamame.
