
Bread sauce
Our best ever bread sauce recipe featuring peppercorns and bay leaves couldn't be simpler, you'll be glad you made the effort to make your own.
- 25g butter
- 1 oniongrated
- 600ml milk
- 6 black peppercorns
- 6 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 142ml pot double cream
- 200g fresh white breadcrumbs

Method
step 1
Melt the butter in a pan and cook the onion for 5 minutes until softened. Add everything else but the breadcrumbs and gently simmer for 15 minutes.
Fish out the peppercorns, cloves and bay leaf then stir in the breadcrumbs and simmer for a few minutes (add a splash more milk if you like your sauce thinner). Season and pour into a warm serving jug or bowl.
